United Nations AI for Good

Yesterday, I met up with one of my AI inspirations, Fleur Prince, at The Hague Tech. I first met Fleur when she gave an AI presentation at the WBII on Unleashing the Potential of AI in Business and have worked with her since on several AI related projects, including Alumni & AI events and THT TechFest.

She highlighted the United Nations AI for Good website and resources, which is a wealth of information for anyone interested in AI. Were you aware of it? Well worth taking a look. As the name suggests, their focus on how humanity can leverage and guide this tech in a positive way.

Their description:

The United Nations’ leading platform on Artificial Intelligence to solve global challenges. AI for Good is identifying innovative AI applications, building skills and standards, and advancing partnerships to solve global challenges. AI for Good is organized by ITU in partnership with over 50 UN partnersand co-convened with the Government of Switzerland.

I’d never heard of ITU so made another useful discovery. It stands for International Telecommunications Union.

ITU is connecting the world and beyond. As the United Nations specialized agency for digital technologies, we are working towards harnessing innovation and connecting everyone to ensure a better future for all.

Global Summit in Geneva

They have been hosting an annual global summit since 2017! Considering the relatively newness of the AI phenomenon in our society, really only being in mainstream conversations for the last couple of years, this is really interesting.

The website has a link to each year’s summit since 2017, all with a huge number of valuable resources, essentially tracking the focus and development of AI for nine years now. For example, there is a report of the 2017 conference, covering all the themes below – which many of us are only learning about in 2025.

What I’m grateful for is that, in the spirit of the UN’s work, all of this is publicly available. It’s also a useful mix of media, so no matter how much time you have and what your communication style is of ways of processing information, there are many written and visual resources to explore.

The summit is free to attend, or has a VIP package. I’d like to go to the next one in 2026, however it coincides with the end of the academic year, which is always really busy in higher education. At least even reading through the programmes and accessing the others resources online is useful.

Young AI Leaders

For anyone under 30, there is a focussed community. With the tagline “Empowering youth globally to lead the AI revolution”, hubs around the world organise physical meet ups. Fleur Prince is the community leader here in The Hague, so you can contact her if you’d like more information.

Neural Network

I am also exploring the Neural Network, which is mobile/app based. From their site:

The AI for Good Neural Network is designed to help users build connections with innovators and experts, link innovative ideas with social impact opportunities, and bring the community together to advance the SDGs using AI.

AI Skills & capacity

As a lecturer in the Bachelor Applied Computer Science at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, and an AI literacy trainer, I have a particular personal interest in the development of AI skills. This section of their website is something I’ll be working my way through soon….

For example, via the AI courses portfolio, there is a free short course on AI Ethics.

AI Skills Coalition

Even more firmly focussed on skills development and education is the AI Skills coalition in partnership with UNESCO. I’m still trying to understand the differences between all the different paths and sub sections of this website, but this looks very much like a place I may be spending some time….

Even more AI

Their site also has sections on AI events, AI government and AI standards. You can explore it all yourself below. I’m curious to hear – were you aware of this summit/website/organisation? Have you found it useful? In what way? You can connect with me and continue the conversation over on LinkedIn

Wishing you a wonderful day,

Renee 🙂
