SH4D0W Show at Highlight Delft – Unique experience of AI and human interaction

Last night I attended opening night of the fabulous  Highlight Delft Festival – three nights of installations and performances mixing Art & Technology.

The show SH4D0W at Theater de Veste was an amazing experience of AI and human interaction.

The festival itself is a unique way to wander through the beautiful city of Delft and explore a number of interactive art exhibits.

It’s great that the website & the signs are in Nederlands and also English – thank you!

From sound to light and beyond, it’s a fun and educational way to spend a few hours.

Below is additional information from the Highlight Delft promotion:

Experience the power of AI and immerse yourself in the future!

Highlight Delft and Theater de Veste are bringing the groundbreaking international performance ‘SH4D0W’ to the Netherlands, in which Artificial Intelligence plays the leading role.

The Dutch premiere of “SH4D0W” offers a unique experience in which an AI interacts live with an actress and the audience. Programmed to become more human by collecting data and emotions, the AI seeks to become the ultimate human machine.

AI: The Future Now

Artificial Intelligence is becoming increasingly dominant in our daily lives. Highlight Delft 2024 gives visitors the chance to delve deeper into this subject with various installations and prototypes. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Shadow,” “SH4D0W” explores the encounter between humans and virtual shadows represented by data-driven artificial intelligence.

‘SH4D0W’ takes place within a unique format, the “4D box,” in which digital 3D graphic particles are mixed with physical objects and a live actress. The audience wears 3D glasses, blurring the line between real and fictional. Immerse yourself in this multidimensional spectacle that transcends the imagination.

Discover AI in the foyers

The foyers of Theater de Veste will be transformed into an AI discovery space around ‘SH4D0W’ by Highlight Delft with installations and prototypes by students and companies. For example, Forming Folds by Zeno van den Broek, in which he trains an AI to generate a new language using existing texts to distort and reflect digital space, can be experienced. Relaxing from all the AI input can be done in the installation Ouroboros, an oasis of calm. Maker Jeroen Alexander Meijer leads you through a spatial composition of sound, allowing you to de-stress and experience the constant shifting of your attention.

Highlight Delft

Highlight Delft takes place Feb. 15-17 in downtown Delft, bringing together art & technology. This year’s theme is Do you see what I see, focusing on installations revolving around Artificial Intelligence and tiny particles. The festival works closely with creators on the development of new installations, making many works on public view for the first time during the festival. This year’s features include Schorched Earth by Filip Groubnov, Approaching Zero by Katarine Petrovic and You are source projection and reflection by Sophia Bulgakova.
