On Tuesday 12 November I attended another great Wine, Cheese and AI event in The Hague, organised by Fiona Passantino.
Event promo text:
“AI Sentience”: What is it, how does it happen, how do we know it’s happening, and when? A panel conversation at the dividing line between Human and AI consciousness to understand the “foom” moment, what the differences are between the two, and why it all matters.
Gather as professional Humans to enjoy each other’s company, have a glass of wine, perhaps a bit of cheese, and learn something new about AI. We explore various topics from AI Consciousness and the AI brain, and discuss where all this is going.
What is “AI sentience”? What is “consciousness”? This live panel discussion opens the floor for a general conversation and debate on ethical issues surrounding AI, with audience participation. The panellists would include internal specialists at the event, always a combination of a “Human” and AI specialist coming from a very wide background (programmer, psychologist, philosopher etc.).
After the panelists speak, we dive into theory on the similarities of the AI-Human brain, the frontal lobe center of consciousness now part of the Frontier Model architecture with its Mixture of Experts structure. Where is this going, and is AI consciousness an inevitability? Who gets to decide what intelligence is conscious, and what is not?

Fun and educational
I really enjoy these evenings. AI is a fast changing topic that has a huge impact on many aspects of our lives. It’s great to be able to learn more, while also having some fun with a great group of people.
