The Hague’s alderman Tom de Bruijn will serve as acting mayor of The Hague as of 1 March 2017 when Mayor Jozias van Aartsen retires. He will hold this position until the new mayor of The Hague takes office. This decision was taken by The Hague Municipal Executive.
De Bruijn (D66) will formally become the next in rank under the mayor of The Hague on 16 February when Deputy Mayor Ingrid van Engelshoven leaves her office. Once Saskia Bruines is sworn in as the successor to Van Engelshoven, the Municipal Executive will decide which alderman will be named the next in rank under the mayor.
