Rejoining The Hague University Toastmasters

Back in 2016, I wrote about a new Toastmasters group that some of my students started at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, after I shared with them that the organisation helped me a lot when I was younger. Back then I couldn’t be involved much as I had other commitments.

Now, in 2023, I’m pleased to rejoin the club! This post will gather some highlights, which I’ll add to during my membership.

What is Toastmasters?

If you’re not familiar with this organisation, it’s already almost 100 years old and has clubs all around the world.

Want to join us at HUT (Hague University Toastmasters)?

Meeting information is shared on Facebook here:

The rooms can be tricky to find sometimes if it’s your first time, so you can message first for someone to meet you on arrival.

If you’re not a Facebook user, information is also available on Meetup.

My Icebreaker (again!)

Way back in around 1996, I did my very first Toastmasters speech in Brisbane, Australia. The first time you speak to your club, it’s called the Icebreaker. I did mine again with HUT.

May 2023: Guest Speaker Han de Looper

I enjoyed this workshop on speech structure. Han used a very simple but effective technique of visually representing parts of a speech with cups. Better than a powerpoint!
