What is Periscope and Meerkat and why should I care?

I’ve been a social media specialist for many years now and Periscope is a brand new social platform that has all of my peers and I super excited.  Here are a few of my notes:

“I’ve not been so excited about a social platform in….forever” says Kim Garst from Boom Social.

“People aren’t giving me a compelling case” he says, “As a marketer I need to pay bills”.

I sent a message “hello from The Netherlands” and got an immediate “hi there, I love the Netherlands” vocal back.

“I’m such a skeptic about this” he said.  “Do not fall in love with the tool…this is not the future.  Why is netflix and youtube popular?  On demand”

He also talked about how as a marketer, you can’t capture all the data of attendees like a webinar.  But what I like is that is DOESN”T allow marketers to “bulk process” hundreds of email addresses.  It’s back to more natural and one-to-one conversations (though is technically one-to-many but with a feel of one-to-one).
