Each year, there is an official opening event at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands, where I work part time.
The opening of the academic year 2015-16 on 31 August 2015 was attended by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander. He gave the opening address in the AULA, for which I was fortunate to be present.
The themes for the event were:
- World Citizenship
- Internationalisation
- Networking
- Quality
It was also the official opening of “The Lighthouse” and the 40th anniversary of The Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences.
There were a number of workshops and mini events, and a dinner. A select number of staff and students had the opportunity to talk personally to the King, though I was not one.
Due to security, registration was essential and all staff and students had to be on time, carry ID and wear badges.
