New social rental apartments being built in Waelpolder district

In the new Waelpolder district in ‘s-Gravenzande, 104 social rental apartments will be built, divided over two apartment buildings. This first project with Bouwstroom Haaglanden officially started last week.  The directors of the corporations affiliated with Bouwstroom Haaglanden gave the starting signal for the construction of the first apartment complex from the Boele & van Eesteren construction stream. This important milestone was attended by various stakeholders.

During a symposium, organised by Boele & van Eesteren (part of VolkerWessels), various aspects of Bouwstroom Haaglanden were highlighted, such as the collaboration, the process and what is needed within the Haaglanden region to achieve the joint objectives. This was followed by the official act in which the directors of the housing corporations each drove a pole into the ground. For the corporations Wonen Wateringen and Arcade it was an extra special moment because they are developing the 104 social rental apartments in Waelpolder and will soon be renting them out. “We are very proud that the Westland corporations are kicking off within Bouwstroom. This joint new construction project contributes to the housing shortage. It also shows that you can achieve more by tackling challenges together”, according to director-managers Wilfried Stribos (Arcade) and Ferry van der Pal (Wonen Wateringen).

Bouwstroom Haaglanden accelerates housing construction in the region
The corporations in the Haaglanden region have enormous social housing challenges. As collaborating housing corporations in Haaglanden, they want to jointly make the greatest possible contribution, despite the limited investment capacity available. The challenge is leading for the corporations. That is what is needed to give the more than 200,000 registered home seekers a perspective on a home again. Stimulating housing construction is high on the agenda. The initiative for Bouwstroom Haaglanden arose from this issue. Bouwstroom makes a major contribution to accelerating housing construction. At the beginning of 2023, twelve housing corporations from the Haaglanden region signed the cooperation agreement for Bouwstroom Haaglanden. They chose to purchase homes from two builders via Bouwstroom. A thirteenth corporation has now also joined. Jacco Maan, director at Vidomes and chairman of Bouwstroom Haaglanden: “It is of great importance to quickly add good and affordable homes for all home seekers. Bouwstroom Haaglanden accelerates construction production. The homes are developed and built efficiently in both time and money. While the many possibilities within the concept make them all different types of beautiful homes. Homes that are all so badly needed.”

The 104 apartments in Waelpolder are being built by Boele & van Eesteren. They have the scoop on the very first Bouwstroom Haaglanden project. Patrick van Adrichem, director at Boele & van Eesteren, is positive about Bouwstroom Haaglanden: “You can also develop unique apartment complexes with conceptual construction.”

The apartments will be located in two modern buildings in the new-build district of Waelpolder, where more than 700 homes will eventually be built. This district offers a varied range of homes. The apartments vary in type, with two or three bedrooms, a spacious living room with open kitchen and a private outdoor area. The homes will be connected to a sustainable heating network. The apartments are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. A few weeks before completion, the homes will be advertised on Woonnet Haaglanden.
