Sounds of Silence Film & Music Festival – 3rd Edition (24 to 27 February)

Sounds of Silence festival for silent films and live music will celebrate its third edition in February 2017; exposing the profound art of silent cinema and exploring its interaction with contemporary sound.
As in previous editions, we will show silent film masterpieces accompanied by live music by superb musicians who come from a variety of musical styles. This year the festival will extend silent cinema further into the realms of performing arts and immersive technologies. The first day of the festival will be dedicated to avant-garde film and music with an experimental, interactive performance by iii for the Swedish film Häxan, and a live soundtrack by Computer Aided Breathing to the Japanese avant-garde film A Page of Madness.
Def Americans at Paard van Troje (24 February)

Def Americans is a musical tribute to the Man in Black, Johnny Cash and is named after Johnny’s last recording label Def Jam records/American Recordings.
This band is all about delivering the songs exactly the way they were meant to. It’s the same boom-chicka-boom sound that goes so well with Johnny’s voice and that is immediately recognised around the world, even before Johnny starts singing. Definite highlight of the show, just as it was in real life, is the charming Kim Carter taking the stage and joining the group for some of the finest Johnny and June duets. No matter how stern, erratic and dark Cash would get onstage in his songs, June was always there to light up the show! Sadly, both Johnny and June passed on a few years ago but Def Americans carry on their unique legacy. The Man in Black, his life and his music live on through the Def American.
The Kik at Paard van Troje (25 February)

The most famous modern beat band (known from hits such as ‘Simone’, ‘Schuilen bij jou’ and their album with Dutch singer Armand) of the Netherlands is back with a brand new album. ‘Stad & Land’ (City and Land) is open, mature and ofcourse injected with an unmistaken Rotterdam accent.
Support act The Stangs is a young sixties beat group from The Hague. Inspired by the dunes, windy waters and music from the past, they create their own ‘Dune beat’.
