The De Stijl movement was launched in the Netherlands exactly one hundred years ago. Piet Mondrian is the best-known of the artists associated with this still highly influential movement in art, design and architecture. The Netherlands is marking the centenary in 2017 with a year-long programme of festivities under the title Mondrian to Dutch Design. 100 years of De Stijl. Exhibitions and events are being held nationwide to celebrate the achievements and continuing relevance of Mondrian and De Stijl.
As the home of the greatest Mondrian and De Stijl collection in the world, the Gemeentemuseum is at the heart of the celebrations and is holding four different centenary exhibitions.
The Hague City Hall has also been transformed to reflect this theme.
