Nearly One Third of Dutch MPs quit before their time is up

Of the 150 MPs elected at the last general election in 2012, 42 have left before completing their four year stint in parliament, according to researchers at Leiden University. On average, 35 MPs leave parliament in between elections, which generally take place every four years.

The current batch of MPs leaving the job include three party leaders – Labour’s Diederik Samsom, Arie Slob of ChristenUnie and Bram van Ojik of GroenLinks, broadcaster NOS reported. In addition, eight MPs have left the party they were originally elected to serve and started their own groups.
